Bio
Erika Hardaway is an educator, daughter, sister, niece, cousin, auntie, godmother, friend, and researcher. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Spanish Language and Literature from CUNY Hunter College, a Master's degree in International Education (with a focus on refugee resettlement and development) from New York University's Steinhardt School of Education, and she is currently working towards her Doctorate in educational policy and leadership at American University.
Erika’s research explores the transformative impact of Black Indigenous healing and wellness epistemologies in supporting Black women who lead through faith-based activism. Her work bridges education, social justice, and wellness. She uses historical truths as a lens to understand and address contemporary challenges.
At seventeen, Erika lived and worked in Uruguay for 5 weeks during the summer, which solidified her fluency in Spanish and shaped her global perspective on the importance of equitable access to education, health, and physical and psychological safety.
With over a decade of experience, Erika has worn many hats- teacher, instructional coach, administrator, curriculum writer, and national education consultant. Her personal mission is to disrupt patterns that harm those who are historically racialized and marginalized.
